By-Laws Of The Territorial Troupers



1. Secretary.

a. It shall be the duty of the Secretary to keep the Constitution and By-Laws of the club and have the same with him/her at every meeting. He/she shall note all amendments, changes and additions to the Constitution and By-laws and shall permit the documents to be consulted by members upon request.

2. President.

a. It shall be the duty of the President to keep the current version of Roberts Rules and have the same with him/her at every meeting. He/she/ shall permit it to be consulted by members upon request.

3. Membership.

a. Associate membership is open to those interested in 1880's historical reenactments who submit an application to the Secretary at a regular meeting. The associate membership shall last for a period of 180 days. During the 180 day period an associate member shall be required to have or make one reasonably accurate historical costume evocative of the 1880's. Associate membership includes all club privileges except for the right to hold office, vote for club officers, or vote for any other matter. At the first general meeting following the expiration of the 180 day period the membership shall vote to change an associate member's status to full membership.

b. Full membership includes all club privileges as well as rights to hold a club office and to vote for club officers.

c. In the event any member commits an illegal act or otherwise brings discredit upon the club, the club shall form a committee to conduct an inquiry. Upon completion of the inquiry the findings shall be presented to the membership. The membership shall vote to determine the member's status and/or expulsion.

d. In the event a member resigns, withdraws, or otherwise is no longer associated with the club, the member shall forfeit any assessments, dues, or monies paid to the club and waive any and all rights and claims.

4. Meetings.

a. The annual meeting and election of officers shall be held on the first Sunday in January. In the event the first Sunday falls on January 1st, the annual meeting shall be held on the second Sunday in January.

b. Regular meetings shall be held on the first Sunday of each calendar month. In the event the first Sunday is a national holiday or the club is participating in a special event, the regular meeting shall be held on the second Sunday of the month.

c. Special meetings may be called by the President upon the written request of any five club members. Notices shall be sent to members concerning special meetings and the business to be transacted. Only such business as designated shall be transacted. Such notices shall be sent so that they arrive not less than 48 hours before the special meeting.

d. All voting results shall be determined by a simple majority providing Constitutional requirements for quorums have been met.

5. Legal Requirements.

a. The club shall comply with all national, state, and local laws and regulations.

b. When participating in special events the club shall comply with all rules and regulations stipulated by the governing organization.

6. Insurance Requirements.

a. The club shall apply for and maintain a group insurance policy applicable to special events and performances where the general public or other spectators may be present.

b. An assesmment shall me made in accordance with Article V of the Constitution. The assesment shall be equally apportioned among all full and associate members. The assessment shall also apply to all future members.

c. In the event of an excess of monies, the Treasurer shall set aside the excess monies for payment of future insurance premiums. The excess monies shall not be used for any other purpose.

d. In the event a member resigns, withdraws, or otherwise is no longer associated with the club, the member shall forfeit any monies paid and waive any and all rights and claims to the monies.

6. Dues.

a. Dues for all members shall be $10.00 per month. Monthly payments shall be due at the first club meeting of each month. Members may make advance payments of dues on a quarterly, semi-annual, or annual basis.

b. In accordance with Article V of the Constitution non-payment of monthly dues shall be cause for expulsion from the club within the discretion of the membership.

c. In the event a member resigns, withdraws, or otherwise is no longer associated with the club, the member shall forfeit any dues paid and waive any and all rights and claims to the dues.

7. Property.

a. Members may donate or lend property to the club. The Treasurer shall issue a receipt which clearly indicates whether property is donated or on loan. The Treasurer and the donating member shall both retain a legible copy of the receipt.

b. Donated property shall become the exclusive property of the club. The donating member shall waive any and all rights and claims to the donated property.

c. Property on loan shall not become the exclusive property of the club. The club shall exercise due care and diligence in maintaining the property. Upon presentation of a receipt a member may reclaim the property.
